Welcome to Easy Angling - One of the best sites around that gives you a great introduction to Angling.
Browse around to find out about how to use feeders, how to pole fish, how to carp fish and much, much more.
Firstly though you must read this before you go fishing. It will give you information on rod licenses, permits and where and when is the best time to fish.
Fish can really be caught anywhere - rivers, streams, lakes, canals, ponds, reservoirs, the sea shore and the open sea.
If you want to become a successful angler you will need to know where to go and when fish are feeding. If you can go for the first time with an experienced friend or parent, they will show you the best practices. Also check fishing magazines which will tell you what fish are being caught, on what baits and on what method. The 'Angling Times' newspaper is highly recommended.
Before you go fishing you will need a national rod license. You can purchase one of these at your local Post Office. They come in three main types:
1) Full - This lasts from April 1st to March 31st but wherever in the year you buy it, it will only last up until March 31st.
2) A few days - An ideal one for holidays.
3) Day license
Prices will vary and the Post Office has full details.
In addition, you may need to buy a day ticket permit to fish your chosen spot. These could be bought on the bank from the bailiff, or in advance at the fishery. You could also become a member of an angling club and have access to all its waters.
Rod licenses or permits are not needed to sea fish although some piers and harbors may make a small charge.
All rivers and some canals are closed from midnight on March 15th to midnight on June 15th, and this is known as the Closed Season.
But many other canals and a huge number of lakes do remain open in this period. Always check with your local tackle dealer, angling club or fishing magazines to see which waters are open. Once again the 'Angling Times' is highly recommended.
There is no closed season for sea fishing.
It is important you obey fishing rules at all times.
